Tax Credit

How It Works
The state of Arizona gives taxpayers credit on their annual returns in exchange for cash donations made to schools to help fund extracurricular activities. If you support your child's school, and if you find yourself making additional payments to the state when you file your return, this credit is for you. Make the donation by the last day of the year and take $200 or $400 (depending on your filing status) off your return. This is money you have already paid to the state in income tax, and you have the rare chance to designate how you would like it spent. By doing so, you also eliminate the need for excessive fundraising by students.

What is the maximum dollar amount of the credit?
The credit is equal to the amount contributed or the amount of fees paid. However, for single taxpayers or heads of household, the credit cannot exceed $200. For married taxpayers that file a joint return, the credit cannot exceed $400. If married taxpayers file separate returns, each spouse may claim 1/2 of the credit that would have been allowed on a joint return.

What if I have more questions?
Arizona Department of Revenue Publication 707 provides general information about school tax credits for individuals and will answer many questions that you may have. Click here to view the publication.

Online Donations
If you would like to make a donation, please visit the AOTStore located in the drop down menu under the tab for each school. If you are interested in applying your AZ Tax Credit towards something specific (i.e. music department, sports, science department, etc.) please make that notation in the comment section when making your online donation.

Please keep in mind that for single taxpayers, or heads of household, the maximum tax credit is $200. For married taxpayers that file a joint return, the maximum tax credit is $400.
