Academic Year 2023-2024

Abstract

8 Math - Algebra 1

The Academy of Tucson Middle School is pleased to announce a collaboration with the Academy of Tucson High School to offer qualifying eighth grade students the opportunity to take an advanced math class at the high school level during academic year 23-24.  Students for this specific class will be required to take a test and receive teacher recommendation to take the course.  This will ensure that students have the necessary prerequisites for success in the course.

Qualifying students will be taken to the AOT high school campus in the morning for this course and be brought back to the middle school for their remaining coursework.  Students will have an opportunity to experience high school life at an A-Rated institution.  This program will allow students to hone their high school readiness skills while receiving credit for B or better work.  We are looking forward to a great experience!

Model United Nations

We are also pleased to announce our initial participation in the junior diplomat program for 7th * 8th grade students in the Model United Nations program.  This is a program that is designed to hone collaboration and debate skills.  Many middle school students that participate in this program join the Model United Nations Program in high school as freshmen and continue until their senior year.

There are many activities that middle school students can participate in virtually through the program as well as in person.  It is a great way to connect with other middle school students across the United States and globally.  Students will not only have a chance to hone their oral defense and writing skills, but get an opportunity to enhance their social skills.

Our AOTMS students will have an opportunity to impact the world.

Please consider joining this program.

Spanish

AOTMS is pleased to announce an opportunity for 8th grade students who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in Spanish (i.e. reading, writing, and conversation).  Students will be given an opportunity to complete a self-paced Spanish course on the Edgenuity platform.  The teacher adviser will monitor student academic progress on the platform and provide student and parent feedback.  Edgenuity is an established education platform that provides student academic resources in core academic areas such as : ELA, Math, Social Studies, Science and Spanish).

Students receiving a B or better from this course will be allowed to take other higher level coursework in high school.  It is a great opportunity for students who meet specific prerequisites mentioned above to hone their foreign language skills.

Interested students should be in contact with the school principal.

Sports

Track/Field Club

Abstract

We are pleased to announce track and field as an option for our students in AY23-24.  This will be a great opportunity for students to participate in a different type of team or individual sport.  It is a great way for students to determine their interests and hone a specific set of sports skills.  This will be a club offering in AY23-24 with an opportunity to travel for participation to other sites in Arizona.

Please remember that track and field are activities for all ability levels.  It is the one sport that has a variety of activities built into the game.

All interested participants should contact the school principal.
