December 11, 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As we come to the end of the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year and we once again
reevaluate our ability to safely return to in-person learning in January, we find ourselves in a
troubling reality. COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths continue to set records on
virtually a daily basis.
In the coming weeks, all the current predictors indicate that these numbers will continue to
climb. It is for this reason that the Academy of Tucson's Board of Directors agreed unanimously
to continue distance learning through the third quarter or first half of the 2nd semester.
We are aware that nothing can replace the in-person teaching experience for which we have
been recognized since 1986. However, our dedicated educators will continue to engage with our
students on a consistent daily basis and provide the best possible learning experience. We will
also continue to follow the experts at the
CDC,
AZDHS, and
Pima County Health Department.
Lastly, in the coming months, the promise of a vaccine has the potential to provide us with the
ultimate mitigation tool available.
Please stay safe and continue to engage with your teachers and principals as needed to ensure
the optimal student learning experience.
Sincerely,
Jose E. Garcia
Superintendent
Academy of Tucson Schools
