Who We Are: The Academy of Tucson Community

Academy of Tucson is proud of our ‘A’ average rating for our district and for our close-knit community of dedicated teachers and staff. We are launching a series of profiles about team members from all three of our Academy of Tucson public charter schools – Elementary, Middle and High School. Read on to learn about one of the educators making our small schools caring and creative.

Lindsey Figueroa, College/Career Advisor, Academy of Tucson High School

Ms. Figueroa is a dynamo! Not only does she advise students on their college prep and career needs, Ms. Figueroa also chaperones ‘The Academy Adventurers’. And in this time of homeschooling and uncertain next steps for our Academy of Tucson high schoolers, she is showing how much advice she has to give!

In her full-time advisory role, Ms. Figueroa helps with everything from financial aid and scholarships, to summer plan options. Taking the PSAT, SAT, AP Testing or ASVAB? She can help! Ms. Figueroa also oversees the relationship between Academy of Tucson High School and the Polytechnic Program for Pima County High Schools at the Joint Education Technical District.

Ms. Figueroa came to Tucson to attend The University of Arizona. Go ‘Cats! She is not new to our public charter school’s halls, before she took on her college and career advisor role, Ms. Figueroa was an English Teacher with us at Academy of Tucson High School.

While advising from home during the coronavirus pandemic, Ms. Figueroa is always available to our students. She offers Virtual Appointments and even has pro tips about productivity apps to keep us all on track. Her guidance on mindfulness and gratitude journals can help in even the most agitated of moments.

When not working hard guiding students to prepare for their exciting futures, Ms. Figueroa is jumping in on adventure and travel. Literally! Last year she surveyed reptiles, mammals, and birds in the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador to start. Next she observed unique marine life and cataloged rare plants in The Galapagos. Ms. Figueroa takes the plunge – with her students and in her own life - and has the SCUBA photos to prove it!
