August 4, 2020: Superintendent Update

August 4, 2020
Dear Parents,

As you are aware the Academy of Tucson will begin the school year on Thursday August 6, 2020 while implementing a full distance learning model. The administration, faculty and staff have been working diligently to facilitate this process and to ensure that our students are provided educational resources that can best match the in-school experience.

With an abundance of caution for our students, faculty and staff and thoughtful consideration of the guidance provided by the Pima County Health Department, Arizona Department of Health Services, and Centers for Disease Control, along with parent survey information and concerns, our board of directors voted unanimously to extend distance learning through the end of the first semester. On or around the end of the first quarter, October 9, 2020, we will reevaluate these data and metrics to determine if it would be prudent to implement our in-person learning plan or continue our distance learning plan for the semester.

During these trying times it is more important than ever that we all continue to work together in an effort to provide the best possible learning experience for all.

Sincerely,
Jose E. Garcia M.Ed
Superintendent
